Best Films of 2007 The listing is in no particular order. Please feel free to arrange them according to your preferences. Taare Zameen Par : This is the movie which has everything at the right place. The directorial venture of Aamir Khan reiterated the fact that he has one of the most creative brains in the industry and of course he thrives on perfection. A film on children for everyone where one cries, laughs and finally reconnects to one’s childhood. I love all the songs of the movie. Chak De India : The movie which gave the nation starved of sporting excellence a battle cry. And amazingly India performed well in sporting arena after that (at least for few months). A brilliantly written script, which subtly touches upon the crisis of Muslim identity in modern India and brings out the gender bias prevalent in our society, was transformed into an engaging saga. The 16 girls celebrated the girl power whereas ShahRukh for once showed the range of his acting which mostly remains untapped....
Taare Zameen Par ................ Verdict Go and watch it if you haven't watched it yet. Rarely such a simple and beautiful movie comes out of the stable of bollywood. There may be some hiccups but go for once to relive your childhood. It is 2 am and still I'm writing this because I have just returned watching it and am bowled by it. Go and enjoy the cinematic experience which celebrates life and perhaps urges us to rediscover the colours of life which somehow was lost in the midst of pursuing everything which is material.
Taare Zameen Par No, this is not the review of the movie. I am sure that most of you have watched the movie by now. And even if you have not I do not qualify to write the review as I have not seen the movie till now. Yeah I know it’s a shame but I will definitely watch it in a day or two. So what am I going to write with this topic in mind? Let me see………… When I saw the trailer of the movie with a tagline “Every child is special”, I had inkling to what Aamir wanted to convey through the movie and though I have not seen the movie, as I admitted, I am taking the liberty of exploring the same sentiments within me borrowing the title of this film. My existence is often marred by too much thought and no action. Somehow the sentiments that I want to share with you have precipitated because of this inaction or may be because of the inability of convert my conviction into reality. Still confused? I know that by now you would have understood that I am trying to say something concerned to childr...
Me Myself And Cricket………. Author Speak : This is a unique effort and almost worthless. The character of Rahul is deliberately represented with weak arguments so as to bring forth the point I believe is important. The quality of the article may not be good but bear with it. I will try to write much better articles in the future. “Urghhhhhhhhhhhh” cried Rahul. “These people don’t know how to play cricket. What was the use of throwing away wicket like that?” Shanu sat there in momentarily gloom. He was following all his superstitions religiously to make India win. So he had not left his seat, been continuously changing to the same set of channels, was uttering his prayers with sincerity. The end result was however known. The Indian Cricket team lost to Sri Lanka thereby surrendering its chance to qualify into the super eight of the world cup to an improbable miracle. Rahul was furious, Shanu heartbroken. Pride of every Indian was hurt and that was reflected in the reactions pouring in fr...
Me Myself And………………. What better way to put forth my views on the issues concerned to me than the conflict they arouse in me. This series will be a unique way of reflecting my thought process through two of my alter egos: Shanu and Rahul. Both represents me but are generally convinced by entirely opposite ideas. So, let me again venture into an unknown territory.
Eklavya They have called it the “Greek Tragedy”, a masterpiece that unfolds to bring out the best in Indian cinema and an original script that brings in the touch of Shakespearean tragedy with masterly craft. So when I watched the movie there was much anticipation. A Vidhu Vinod Chopra movie is always special and if the man is returning at the helm after a long hiatus of 7 years there is bound to be expectations. With a stellar star cast that combines the best in the bollywood both in terms of skills as well as star value the movie was safe bait anyhow. (Now don’t bring in Salaam-e-Ishq for God’s sake to counter this point). You must have watched the movie or may be planning to watch it in the coming weekend. So let me tell you how the movie fared in my view. Indian Cinema is changing and a good thing is that we are looking beyond the regular love stories, tearjerkers and revenge based themes. The ambience in which Eklavya has been set is superb. The mix of the age old royalty and the ...
Mr. Bond “Are you Bond?” “Yes I am Bond, James Bond.” “Hey where are your gadgets? I don’t see any of them.” He smiled and passed by me. “Wait Mr. Bond. What can I expect out of you this time?” I shouted. He turned back and smiled. His eyes had certain mix of intensity and vulnerability which was different from all other 007. I followed him to his entire journey of Mission “Casino Royale”. Welcome to the new Bond. This one is less suave and charming but somehow he manages to hold your attention. I love Pierce Brosnon so I’m not going to fall into the debate that how does this Bond fares against his characterization. That is not required at all. Believe me. So let me explore the boundaries which I’ve till now avoided for my own convenience. Here is what I think of this much hyped cinematic extravaganza. Each Bond movie has certain expectations. This one hasn’t had any. The selection of Daniel Craig had fumed perhaps the entire Bond fan fraternity. Even though I am no one I would like ...
. Two days back this serene college faced a tragedy ............ the death of a young intelligent mind . Now this is not an obituary to the departed soul as I barely knew him. Why I ever thought to write about this loss is still not very clear to me. One thing is for sure though I felt the need to express my feelings somewhere. What's better than this blog. I'm a human and so I felt the pain but that is in no comparison to the pain being felt by the loved ones of the boy. I waited for two days because the details were not available with me and no one wants to pass an unwarranted statement/judgement based on hazy facts. The boy died of an accident. This was the news which filtered to us that afternoon. The picture was not clear though, and the ones in our batch who knew the boy rushed to the accident site. I am plain honest here .......... I assume that I can't stand all these and so I never planned to visit the site. So there was some sorrow, chaos and gossip which was to...
V for Vendetta ...... Remember Remember the 5th of November ................. Now if you think that this is a review of sort for this much hyped cinematic version of a comic book story then it is not. I will always love to write a review but that can wait for sometime. If you want to view the reviews for this movie then there are plenty of them already posted .......... giving it ratings from 2.8 to 4.4. I don't care about the ratings that any self-proclaimed movie critic gives to a movie. This movie has somehow turned my attention not related to scope of cinema anyhow. The protagonist "V" is instrumental in stirring the citizens of an oppressed nation out of deep slumber. He provided them with a hope to fight for their rights ................. " People should not be afraid of their governments .......... governments should be afraid of their people." Now in this movie "V" is hero ................... whatever he does he does to eliminate the oppression...
Getting Started.............. Well when i created this blog i'd many ideas crossing my minds about the contents of my writings in this blog. Unfortunately till now this devilous mind has not allowed any of those to take over the reign. So to make it simple ..... i've decided that this will be a platform to voice my views, concern over anything i feel like. So what's big deal about it.............. one would ask. Nothing ....... and that should be the novelty of this blog. A normal blog to put forth the views of an ordinary human being. I'm not a revolutionary to provide people with their voice ............ to shake them out of their slumber. So forget about anything special. It will, as i've stated earlier, provide one with my viewpoint. From what i've observed that people are mostly driven by their impulse rather than by reasoning ( although they use every bit of their reasoning to justify their impulsive behaviour). So to convince one with my reasoning will ...
